Digital Literacy Is Becoming More Important

One of the significant developments in the revised curriculum is the stronger emphasis on digital competence.

At Primary 4–6, Basic Digital Literacy appears as a curriculum area. At JSS 1–3, the revised offering includes Digital Technologies.

This is important because digital skills are no longer simply an optional advantage.

Children are growing up in a world where learning, communication, work and business increasingly depend on technology.

Schools therefore need to consider how learners can develop age-appropriate skills such as:

  • Basic computer operations
  • Digital communication
  • Responsible internet use
  • Information searching
  • Digital safety
  • Productivity tools
  • Problem-solving with technology
  • Understanding digital information

The objective should not simply be to teach children how to operate a computer.

It should be to help them become confident, responsible and productive users of technology.
